How to Survive Bills

Bills are the hidden boss

Crypto Trading Simulator is marketed as a trading fantasy, but the silent boss fight is cashflow. Rent, electricity, internet, and food drain your account whether or not your last altcoin idea worked. Players who treat living costs as background flavor eventually panic sell winners—or worse, skip risk controls to “make rent on this candle.” This guide builds a survival system you can run every session.

Use the Bill Budget Planner alongside this page. For trade sizing after the buffer is set, open the Position Risk Planner.

Build a cash floor

Your cash floor is the amount that must remain untouched by trading ego. A simple method:

  1. List upcoming rent, power, internet, food, and other recurring costs.
  2. Add a shock buffer (extra days of runway for bad market luck).
  3. Only capital above that line is tradable risk fuel.

If the floor is breached, you enter Survival Mode: fewer trades, no vanity upgrades, strict adherence to How to Trade Template A.

Session opening ritual

Before charts:

  • Check hunger and food status. Community reports have mentioned hunger or food items not saving correctly in Early Access—verify after load and re-apply if needed, then report clear repro steps on Steam or Discord from the Links hub.
  • Reserve bill money explicitly (mental envelope or note).
  • Decide whether today is survival, skill, or expansion—see session templates in the trading guide.
  • Glance at the social feed for fee-spike or crisis events via Social Feed and Events.

Spending hierarchy when money is tight

  1. Keep yourself housed, powered, connected, and fed.
  2. Maintain a tiny trading stake so you can still practice.
  3. Buy only S-tier productivity upgrades from Upgrade Priority.
  4. Delay cosmetics from Office Upgrades until you have multi-cycle surplus.

A beautiful chair cannot pay electricity. A stable desk setup can reduce mistakes—but only after survival is funded.

Panic-sell prevention

Panic sells usually happen when bills and open risk collide. Prevention rules:

  • Never enter a trade whose full stop would pierce the cash floor.
  • If an event headline hits while you are underfunded, flatten first, interpret later.
  • Convert windfall gains into bill prepayments before celebrating with furniture.
  • Journal “almost broke” moments and adjust risk percent downward.

When upgrades wait

If you are oscillating between feast and famine, freeze the shop for several cycles. Skill improvements from How to Read Charts and Trading Strategies are free. Hardware can wait. Revisit shopping only after two consecutive cycles where the cash floor never felt threatened.

Early Access caveats

Economy tuning will continue. Fees, item prices, and life systems may shift—track Patch Notes and the roadmap. Do not assume staking yield will bail out a bad buffer before staking exists in your build.

Recovery plan after a wipe

  1. Stop trading for a cooling session segment.
  2. Rebuild the bill planner numbers from scratch.
  3. Take micro trades only for process practice.
  4. Earn one S-tier upgrade only after the floor is restored.
  5. Read Risk and Security before increasing size again.

Metrics that prove you are surviving

  • Number of bill cycles cleared without emergency liquidation
  • Average cash above floor at session end
  • Percent of upgrades bought from surplus versus desperation
  • Count of avoided rumor all-ins

Continue to Office Upgrades when surplus returns, or Getting Started if you are still onboarding. For a candid look at whether the life-sim pressure fits your taste, see the Early Access Review.

Weekly solvency review

Once per week, rebuild your bill planner from scratch instead of trusting last session’s memory. Ask whether any upgrade purchase quietly raised electricity fantasy costs, whether food spending spiked after a stressful loss streak, and whether you dipped into the floor to “make it back.” If yes, demote yourself to Survival Mode for the next three sessions and ban the shop entirely.

Teaching friends the bill meta

When a friend installs Early Access after watching your green screenshots, send them this page before Office Upgrades. The fastest way to ruin someone’s first impression is letting them buy a chair with rent money. Pair the link with Getting Started so they understand the fantasy and the trap in the same sitting.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What if food or hunger status resets after loading?

Re-check after each load, keep screenshots, and report the issue via Steam or Discord. See the [Links hub](/wiki/) and watch [Patch Notes](/updates/patch-notes/).

Can I ignore bills if my portfolio is up?

No. Unrealized gains do not pay rent. Keep a cash floor with the [Bill Budget Planner](/tools/bill-budget-planner/).

Should I sell winners to pay bills?

Sometimes yes—solvency beats ego. Plan exits before bills are due using [How to Trade](/guides/how-to-trade/).
